PALM SUNDAY – HOLY WEEK
Bible Readings:
Isaiah 50:4-9a;
Psalm 118:1-2, 19-end;
Philippians 2:5-11;
Luke 19:28-40
Gospel reading (extract)
As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, saying,
‘Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!’
Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, ‘Teacher, order your disciples to stop.’ He answered, ‘I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.’ [Luke 19.36-40]
A Poem for Holy Week:
The Passion – George Herbert
Since blood is fittest, Lord, to write
Thy sorrows in, and bloody fight;
My heart hath store; write there, where in
One box doth lie both ink and sin:
That when sin spies so many foes,
Thy whips, thy nails, thy wounds, thy woes,
All come to lodge there, sin may say,
No room for me, and fly away.
Sin being gone, oh fill the place,
And keep possession with thy grace;
Lest sin take courage and return,
And all the writings blot or burn.

On the Way to the Cross
with Alan Wallace:
Quiet Day at Epiphany House – Saturday 18th April

Epiphany House quiet days are an opportunity for prayer, reflection, and silence, fostering deeper connection with God. The April quiet day, on Saturday 18th April from 10.00am – 4.00pm, is titled On the Way to the Cross. Through reflective and meditative stations of the cross, participants will connect personally with Christ’s passion. The reflections will explore themes such as sacrifice, humility, suffering, and the redemptive love of God, encouraging participants to confront their own struggles and sins in light of Christ’s journey. There will be opportunities for quiet reflection, creativity, and the use of the beautiful house and grounds of Epiphany House as part of your preparation for the Resurrection. Alan Wallace, a Church Army Officer and CEO of Epiphany House, looks forward to sharing this sacred time with you, trusting that God will work deeply within us as we journey together. £30.00 to include refreshments and a light lunch. Befriending Open Evening
at High Street Methodist Church – Tuesday 6th May
A proposal has been put forward to Churches Together in Penzance Area for perhaps a NEW Project.
The Kernow Gateway of Social Prescribers and other community groups are telling CTiPA of a huge unmet need
for befrienders in our West Penwith community. Those who live alone, or are housebound through illness or frailty, would find it difficult or impossible to walk into a church or to join any activity group. If you are interested in finding out about volunteering to become a befriender, there will be an open evening at High Street Methodist Church on Tuesday 6th May at 7.00pm, where we can discuss further, and if feasible, have a steering group to take this idea to the next stage.
To find out more, please email Karen Morozova (Chair) at secretary@churchestogetherinpenzance.co.uk and leave your contact details for a call back.
