Mary anointing Jesus – from a 1684 Arabic manuscript of the Gospels, copied in Egypt by Ilyas Basim Khuri Bazzi Rahib (likely a Coptic monk)
5th Sunday of Lent – Passiontide
Bible Readings:
Isaiah 43:16-21;
Psalm 126;
Philippians 3:4b-14;
John 12:1-8
“Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honour. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.“
Prayer for those affected by the Earthquake in Myanmar
God, our strength and our refuge,
We pray to you for the people of Myanmar.
We hold in mind those who are injured or have been bereaved.
We ask your protection for everyone awaiting rescue.
May those who have lost homes and belongings be comforted.
May emergency workers and medical staff be safe as they pour their energy
Into saving the lives of others.
May the international community respond quickly to support those affected.
God, our strength and our refuge,
Be with our global neighbours today.
Amen [Christian Aid]

Holy Week at St. Pol de Léon Church
6th April Passion Sunday
10.30am Iona Service
4.00pm Cross of Christ: a devotion for choir and congregation followed by refreshments
First published by the Royal School of Church Music in the 1950’s, The Cross of Christ has been a firm favourite for use at Passiontide ever since. This revised edition has been skilfully updated by Peter Moger using Common Worship prayers and responses, but with the same format and readings as the original. An alternative set of readings, based on John’s Passion narrative, gives a fresh perspective. The selection of music that has moved generations of church-goers remains the same, although re-set to enable a clearer score, so the music is fully compatible with the previous edition. Alternative hymns have been provided in the appendix for those wishing to freshen the devotion with new material.

OTHER INFORMATION & EVENTS
Redwing Community Fundraiser
Redwing is a not-for-profit social enterprise founded in 2011 in Penzance, Cornwall. It has a history of providing a safe space for all, a place to engage with other community members, dialogue with artists, create new ideas for social change, grow stronger as individuals and as a community. Redwing provides a welcoming space where differences are respected and encouraged. In late 2023 Redwing relocated to the long-disused Humphry Davy pub (originally known as St John’s House) on Alverton Street in Penzance. They have been awarded £250,000 by the Government’s Community Ownership Fund (COF) to help buy the building for the community and need to raise the remainder quickly (the asking price is £325,000 plus VAT) to access the funding and buy the building by December 2025. They have set up a Crowdfunder to raise £4000 match funding and demonstrate that the community are backing the idea.
The project will only be funded if at least £4,000 is pledged by 27th April 2025 at 4:07pm.
For more information and to donate to this worthy cause if you’re able, please visit: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/redwing-forever if possible
