Contemplative Prayer

Update

A contemplative prayer group has been running on the last Monday of every month in Penzance for approximately 19 years. We are not currently able to meet in person so we all sit in silence in our own homes at 7.30pm for half an hour of Christian meditation or contemplation.  We hope to meet in person soon. For any information please contact Vicky Howard via St Mary's Church office.

A 10 minute guidance session is provided below.

I found the guidance from Teresa of Avila, sent by Richard Rohr, very helpful. I send it to you, in summary form, in case you do too.
'When we pray and meditate, we may see, hear or feel the divine presence in many ways. However it may also be likely that we will not experience the divine in any form. We may feel that something is wrong. However under no circumstances are we to give up our time of prayer and meditation, no matter how tedious it becomes. This would be like saying that since we are no longer receiving anything, we will not spend our time this way. How it would it be, if in a moment of not receiving anything from our friends and lovers, we stopped spending time with them?
We should give to the Beloved the small amount of time we spend in meditation and prayer, and not take it back, not even if we experience dryness in our prayer time. Living with the Beloved does not mean always being bathed in delight. What it does mean is serving the divine relationship with fortitude and humility. We are not to abandon the relationship which is at the very core of our existence.

Coming into your quiet place, give of yourself and your time, expecting nothing. Give freely and allow yourself to be with the One who loves you.'
